Grade 6 – Outdoor Invasion – Football

The new Grade 6 unit is an outdoor invasion Unit – Football. Invasion games are team games where the objective is to invade your opponents space while scoring goals/points and keeping your opponents points to a minimum. They can be played indoors, outdoors, on ice or in water. Examples of invasion games include sports where the ball is carried or caught across a line, thrown or shot into a target, or struck with a stick or foot into a specific target area (Pearson & Webb, 2008). Invasion games are the most strategic types of games with many transferable skills (Koleric, R).

Some examples of invasion games are;
Football
Rugby
Basketball
Lacrosse
Hockey
Ringette
Bandy
Ultimate Frisbee
Handball
Polo
Water Polo
Field Hockey

For our unit we will focus on football. As well as working on the various skills needed for football, we will also look at the significant concept of a player’s role on the team. His/her position on the pitch and our unit question will be ” What does it mean to be out of position?”.
Your assessment task will be a performance analysis interview (Criteria A)- you will be asked to comment on some play and discuss positions, movement and space. You will also be assessed via teacher observation on Criteria C- Performance, and Criteria D- Personal and Social Engagement. Here are your task specific criteria.
